Lunenburg, Novia Scotia to Saint George's Harbour, Bermuda is a classic route for sailors heading offshore from the East Coast of the North American continent bound for the warmer waters of the Caribbean. This can be a tough leg in the Fall as by the time Hurricane season is over the first winter storm systems are starting to develop. We will leave during a good weather window, even if we have to wait a few days, for the 750 nautical mile passage south. The trip will bring a range of weather conditions. It is guaranteed to be a chilly start, but once we cross the Gulf Stream the layers will keep coming off and by the time we are rolling into Bermuda expect to be working on your tans!
This trip will offer the most challenging sailing of our season and is a great opportunity to really learn what it takes to complete an offshore passage. We will have dynamic weather conditions and routing will be important as we choose the best locale to cross the gulf stream. This is billed as a heavy weather passage, and you will see why after being out on the North Atlantic in November!
